At Fosse Primary, we believe that it is important for children to learn and understand about society, themselves and the world around them. The aim of our PSHCE curriculum is to ensure that children acquire and develop the skills to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships. We promote moral issues and enhance children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

PSHE is delivered using the Jigsaw scheme of work. This is a whole school programme that follows six different puzzles across the year: Being Me in My World; Celebrating Difference; Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me; Relationships and Changing Me. A Jigsaw lesson will provide children with a chance for a short meditation, opportunities for discussion and finally reflection. Children’s thoughts and ideas are recorded in their journals. Weekly celebrations are held across the school for children who have promoted learning behaviours associated with each weekly theme. In addition to Jigsaw, we use the Christopher Winter Project to deliver our sex and relationships education. Fosse Primary is part of the Everybody Welcome project which teaches and promotes the inequalities act. Across the school, we make use of a range of texts which celebrate diversity and equality. We include British values, ensuring that children are aware of their rights and responsibilities as UK citizens.

Through our PSHE curriculum, we seek to develop emotionally healthy individuals who value the importance of mental health, wellbeing and social awareness. Our children show awareness of others and celebrate diversity, tolerance and understanding.
